Default Bring Dye Remover Back!

Bring the dye remover back! Sure, it will still make the armor gray (default color).. But what about the items that weren't gray will never be, such as my backpack and bags, you can buy new bags and belt pouches..... but not a new backpack. Please Anet, turn vial of dye (gray) into dye remover again.

I think they should just make gray another color that can be purchased in the dye trader and found as a random drop. They can even put dye remover in there as well. It's never made sense, although I'm sure someone here will explain it to me, why dye remover/gray dye has to be available separately by the merchants.

Sometimes it's a hassle to buy the stuff, since in certain locations the merchant(s) aren't even close to the dye trader(s). I say put them all together, make them all equally available and call it good. "Economy" be damned, we don't need another gold sink in this game, there are enough already. Dye shouldn't have to be one of them!

/signed I dont think Anet though it fully through.
They probably thought no need for dye remover now that all armor is base grey, but what about all the weapons and shields one can dye. Now if I want to revert them back to the original colour I cant

I don't see the point of bringing back dye remover. We already have grey, which is now the default color of armor, and ArenaNet has said that they made it so we can still get all the colors we got before the new dye system. Just experiment with dyes and you will find the color you want. I'm pretty sure it's the same with weapons too...

And why are you talking about bags and backpacks? Can you even dye bags and backpacks?

Unless someone can clarify or tell me something I don't know,

But, it is really anoying how the trader has a "grey dye" which has dye in the name, yet, its not at the "dye trader" which sells dyes...

Yes, you can dye Bags and Backpacks. I unfortunately died mine, expecting the dye preview window to show up, but alas, now my bag is died and AFAIK there is no way to make it the default color again

I had this same problem. After sending an email out to A.Net, turns out Brown is the original color of Backpacks, Bags, etc (Thanks A.Net for telling me this, btw).

Anyhoo, just color the thing brown. You'll have your bag back to normal.

Also, "Vial of Dye (Gray)" should be sold at Dye Traders. And Merchants should still have Dye Remover.

It doesn't hurt to have the extra 'dye' (dye remover) does it?

Um, Grey is not the default colour of armour. The only reason you may think this is becuse now you can only dye your armour, and armour traders all sell their armour dyed grey.
If you look very closely at some sets of armour, you can still see the real default colour poking through.

Defaults are:
  • Yellow for Warrior
  • Yellow/Tan for Ranger
  • White for Monk
  • Red for Necromancer
  • Purple for Elementalist
  • Green for Mesmer
  • Blue for Assassin
  • Orange for Ritualist
  • Yellow for Paragon
  • Blue for Dervish

Now, I really wish I could make my armour default colour without having to buy the right colour of dye.

Hence the default colour of armour is now grey.

Easy solution:

Move Grey Dye to the Dye Merchant, and add Dye Remover to the Merchant.

Problem solved.

Well for a start the prices at the dye trader fluctuate based on drops, and grey dye never drops. It is also really stupid to duplicate it like that, have one or the other, but not two things that do the same thing but are bought in different places. I think that's an ugly solution, but the easiest way usually is.

The fact is all armour starts out grey now, so grey dye does the exact same thing dye remover would have done. Anything you dye can be changed back to its original colour using another dye. Armour starts out grey, bags start out brown.

Using your logic, how do I dye my Storm Bow back to it's original color? I applied gray dye to it, which brings out the pebbled texture on the skin. But what if someday I want it to look like every other Storm Bow out there again? Which dye do I pick then, hm? Don't tell me to just use the opposite dye color, because they don't dye exactly the same way as Chaos Axes do. It'd have to be trial and error, which wastes my gold. If you want to try it, then go right ahead, but I'm not going to bother finding out which color replicates the original blue hue of a undyed Storm Bow.

Just bring dye remover back and add gray to the trader and as a drop. It's a simple solution, that was also have the side benefit of more choices (lighter shades) for dying armor and items. It would be a combination of the old system with the new, a win-win scenario in my book.

Hey, when you usually have less than 5k to share among six characters, you try not to waste it on frivolous things that increase your "bling factor". I don't farm, I don't wheel-and-deal in towns, I rarely get good drops. I just play the game.

Oh, I understand now. I think I'm going to try dyeing my bags...but then again I'm not sure if I can get them back to normal so I'm sort of hesitating...

Sorry, no need to be so harsh. I don't really dye my weapons much, so I wasn't sure.

Now that I know about these two things,
/signed to having a dye remover back or a dye that recolors everything back to its original color.

How interesting.

Before I created a thread about dye remover, I did a search for dye remover, and nothing came back.

Then someone got upset about it and closed the thread.

So how am I supposed to know if there is already a thread on a subject when the search function fails to show any results?

Anyway, I want dye remover back.

There are colors that can only be achieved with the use of dye remover.

Currently armor come dyed in grey, but they still have the 'default' color under that grey.

Just look and some spots in the Dervish Elonian armor, that have still the blue color even dyed.

They should fix the armor textures so they are with 'dye-friendly' colors, like grey and sepia (Grey for metalic and sepia for fabric and leathers).

Once the textures are like that, the current dying system will work better.
